NEW YORK CITY, New York: The New York State Department of Health has confirmed its first case of a new mpox strain, increasing concerns about the spread of this little-known variant.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported three other cases of this strain in California, Georgia, and New Hampshire. The CDC said these cases are not connected.
In August, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared mpox a global public health emergency for the second time in two years. This happened after an outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo spread to nearby countries.
New York health officials did not share more details about the case.
